[opensuse] 11.4 milestone 2 -> 3 question
Do I need to re-install 11.4 milestone 3 on a milestone 2 system? I did not see any reference to this in the various descriptions I have found. I did try an update (zupper up and zupper dup), but there were some problems with incompatible RPMs, so I did not actually do the updates. This was against whatever repos the milestone 2 install set up. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. It should be a clean dup from M2 to M3. I need the actual package conflicts to say what's causing a problem and whether it can be ignored or worked around. BTW, it might be useful to say that a zypper dup is ok (beta issues aside) somewhere in the install instructions for the milestone. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. Why do you ask this on opensuse instead of opensuse-factory? I frequently encounter incompatibility messages dup'ing from one M to the next. I don't usually blanket dup. Instead I usually do something like: 'zypper in openSUSE-release mkinitrd rpm libzypp zypper udev hal dbus-1 wget aria2 curl perl-Bootloader yast2-bootloader mc satsolver-tools' and only after that do 'zypper dup' so that the process occurs with the newest package management & initrd tools. Generally some lib will be unable to have deps provided. Sometimes I abort and zypper rm that package, but usually I select the offered option to allow it to be broken, and then zypper dup usually proceeds apparently normally. This happened on both dups to M3 I did in recent days. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. I have been holding off joining that list. I fear what I may start playing with. But I think it will be happening soon. But you are of course right.

Seems reasonable. I guess if these fail you limit the things to be set right to make it work again. In theory... -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O.
