I am having a similar problem with my ScanJet 5p. Xscanimage will not find the scanner. I have temporally solved the problem with this command line argument: "xscanimage scsi hp:/dev/sg0."
Thanks! That helped me out. I could also say: scanimage -d hp:/dev/sg2
With this, it works fine. You may substitute "/dev/sg0" with "/dev/scanner" if you have made the symlink. I have not been able get this to work as a plug-in in GIMP. I have experienced this problem only with 6.0. I didn't have it under 5.3. If anyone has a better or more complete solution please let me know.
