[opensuse] sddm Black Screen After Leap 15.2 Update
Hello, Today, after updating to kernel 5.3.18-lp152.50.1 on my Leap 15.2 machine, every other time or every third time I reboot the system, I never get the sddm login screen. Instead, I am presented with a black screen and sddm never loads, or if it did it's not rendering the login screen at all. There is no mouse pointer at all; my monitors don't go to sleep either, it's just a black screen being rendered. I will wait a few minutes until issuing a CTRL+ALT+F1 command, and then reboot from the terminal. There was an sddm update sometime last week which I am not sure could be the culprit, as the machine hasn't been rebooted in probably over a week so I am not able to determine which update is causing the issue. I found the following bug report upon a preliminary search, but am thinking this may be related to the recent sddm update and not the kernel: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1178639 Has anyone ran into this? Thanks.

I did some more testing and found that updated sddm package is the culprit. When I downgrade the sddm package to sddm;0.18.0-lp152.4.11;x86_64 there are no problems logging in. The problem lies with the package: sddm;0.18.0-lp152.5.3.1;x86_64. I was able to consistently reproduce the aforementioned black screen on roughly every other login.

Then you should open bug report.

No, sddm;0.18.0-lp152.5.3.1;x86_64 works fine with my environment; kernel 5.9.8-3.1-default You've got some dependency problem. I ended up reinstalling the entire distro and the problem is now gone. sddm;0.18.0-lp152.5.3.1;x86_64 is working fine now. I'm not sure why this issue was occurring but it may have had something to do with the kernel update or something getting corrupted. Thank you for testing.
