Re: [opensuse] Forums?
I inadvertently sent this message to Carlos instead of the list. This is one feature of gmail I do not like and constantly forget. Replies to the list are sent instead to the last respondent. My public apologies Carlos for a private reply that was unintended. On Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 4:01 AM, Steven Hess <flamebait@gmail.com> wrote:

Has the server the openSUSE Forums are on gone south? I am getting the following error when I try and log on
Status: 500 Internal Server Error Description: Access Gateway couldn't find the needed policy from service provider. Service Provider is not healthy. It might be just coming up. If refreshing the browser after a few seconds doesn't clear this error condition, please contact your Administrator." If this condition persists, please contact the helpdesk.
They are at least very slow, it took a minute for me to get the main page. I see some recent messages.

I am no longer getting the error message but I am still waiting for the forums to come up and it has been some time (over a minute.) It seems this all has been going down hill for some time to me. The forums keep getting slower and slower to resolve and small issues that can not be handled by forum volunteers are not attended to. It's very worrying. The forums should never be left in a broken state on the weekend in any case.

Web interface has links for Reply, Reply-all, and Forward. You simply hit reply all and clear any fields you don't want. Its a bit of a pain. But you are free to set your Gmail to use Imap, install Thunderbird, and use the reply to list feature. Best of both worlds, free mail storage, synced everywhere and full controls. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I was actually thinking of going the other way and having Google pop my ISP and get all my mail here. I don't know how I handle the reply to in that case though. As in all things Iv'e just got to slow down and think about what I am doing. This is very to when I reply to a list. -- ____________ Steven L Hess ARS KC6KGE DM05gd22 Skype user flamebait Cell 661 487 0357 (Facetime) Google Voice 661 769 6201 openSUSE Linux 11.4 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Single point of failure? How so? You've been around long enough to understand how pop works Carlos. There is no "point of failure" introduced by popping one account with another. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, there is. If I use gmail to pop the email from, say, yahoo, the email is no longer at yahoo (thats pop3, email is deleted from the server). If gmail fails, I loose the email from both servers, gmail and yahoo. That's a single point of failure. I prefer to have two or more different providers: if one fails, I'm still connected via the other. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I use fetchmail to pull from a few mailboxes and feed my gmail account.

You mean the sender? That's easy, set gmail up to "send as" under the account settings. Jim -- Jim Henderson Please keep on-topic replies on the list so everyone benefits -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have it configured now. I am poping my ISP directly from gmail. No need for thunderbird running anymore. My only issue will be storage space eventually. -- ____________ Steven L Hess ARS KC6KGE DM05gd22 Skype user flamebait Cell 661 487 0357 (Facetime) Google Voice 661 769 6201 openSUSE Linux 11.4 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
