[SLE] dhclient - No Such Device....
i was at a convention this weekend, there was a dhcp server running, as i setup my machine to receive this information, i got the following errors: $ dhclient eth0 SCOIFLAGS: No Such Device listening on eth0... no DHCP offers.... $ route -n 127.0.0.1 lo..... $ route add 192.168.12 dev eth0 SCOIFLAGS: Network is Down $ ifconfig eth0 up SCOIFLAGS: No Such Device This problem came on multiple machines all running SuSE 6.3 In order for my card to work, i had to de-activate, unload modules, re-load modules, and reactivate card with a static IP. Is there a problem in what i am doing, or is it dhclient? ryan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
i dont know the source of the problem, or how to fix it. i do however know of a work-around that works great for me..:) on every single SuSE boxen i have, i've gotta do a "ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 up" befor running dhclient. i dont know why, but it works. Its not a problem for me, since i dont reboot..heh good luck..:) -- ======================================================================== Rocky McGaugh Atipa Linux Solutions Product Development www.atipa.com rocky@smluc.org rmcgaugh@atipa.com ======================================================================== On Tue, 4 Apr 2000, Ryan Yagatich wrote:

If this is a laptop, which I am assuming, make sure that you're pcmcia driver load first... also check to make sure that you have a defined ethX device, so that an appropriate driver is present when the system tries to initialize the device. - Herman On Tue, 4 Apr 2000, Ryan Yagatich wrote: ->>i was at a convention this weekend, there was a dhcp server running, as i ->>setup my machine to receive this information, i got the following errors: ->> ->>$ dhclient eth0 ->> ->>SCOIFLAGS: No Such Device ->>listening on eth0... ->>no DHCP offers.... ->> ->> ->>$ route -n ->>127.0.0.1 lo..... ->> ->> ->>$ route add 192.168.12 dev eth0 ->>SCOIFLAGS: Network is Down ->> ->> ->>$ ifconfig eth0 up ->>SCOIFLAGS: No Such Device ->> ->>This problem came on multiple machines all running SuSE 6.3 In order for my ->>card to work, i had to de-activate, unload modules, re-load modules, and ->>reactivate card with a static IP.
