I don't thinks it's 4.1. It's nfs and something to do with root squash that doesn't allow permission changes. the only way around it is to go to the box, login as root init 3 rcnfs restart init 5 alt-f1 exit. What is fast access plasmoid? There is another workaround to try. Create two userspace desktop folder widgets. Call one desktop and the other apps. Link whatever you want them to use in apps. Make sure you own it, not them. Delete everything in desktop. It works after every update. It's a good way to make them listen. Thanks for your answer, but no. Maybe the errors depends on this (hope i translate correctly): Following mime types cannot be found: “inode/directory” “inode/blockdevice” “inode/chardevice” “inode/socket” “inode/fifo” “application/x-shellscript” “application/x-executable” “application/x-desktop” Frank -- Frank Fiene / IT-Services Fon: +49 2526 29-6200 Fax: +49 2526 29-16-6200 mailto: ffiene@veka.com www.veka.com VEKA AG Dieselstr. 8 48324 Sendenhorst Deutschland/Germany Vorstand: Andreas Hartleif (Vorsitzender), Dr. Andreas W. You are basing your assumptions on something written in 2003? And you are using kde 4.1? Rename your .kde4 folder rename your .kde folder and rename your .xinitrc and /etc/xorg.conf. Then enter runlevel 3 and accept what sax2 -r gives you. Reboot. No one on this list will help you with kde4.. If they do they reply to you off list. Try to become one such member. I see you tried by sending the same message to me and the list. That's a start. But you'll have to try harder than that to be accepted. valid point

reboot not necessary
No one on this list will help you with kde4..
What are you smoking. This is utterly false!
If they do they reply to you off list.
maybe, but shouldn't unless requested.
Try to become one such member.
meaning?
I see you tried by sending the same message to me and the list. That's a start. But you'll have to try harder than that to be accepted.

Good eye ;-)

Why so wide? What is fault of /etc/X11/xorg.conf (not /etc/xorg.conf) when icons are messed up. It could be, but there must be some indication that X server is at fault, before one start to reconfigure Xorg.
No one on this list will help you with kde4..
?? You did, and you are for sure not the "no one". Me too, but I already wrote somewhere, maybe few times, that I had issue with garbled icons and that I use another user for KDE4 only. That is the reason that I can't see desktop compatibility problems between KDE3 and 4, and until this post I didn't find the reason to reply. There is nice working search on http://lists.opensuse.org mail archive, and everyone has right to use it. There is opensuse-kde@opensuse.org that has much more about any KDE. Unlike many other things that are separated between old and new KDE, Desktop directory is the same. The only way to separate this too, is to create new user and use it for KDE4 only.

You can imagine that some people don't want to subscribe because of high volume of this list, but they want to help anyway. Or, they were banned at some point, but they still want to give advice, or "advice". Or, they are trying to reply on post in some mail archive like Gmane or Nabla, but as they are not subscribed only direct mail can reach you. Or, as Frank, they just used wrong reply option. It should be "Reply to Mailing-List" or keyboard shortcut "l". Capital l (Shift+l => L) doesn't work, although it is advertised in context menu, probably to prevent wrong reading. In some fonts "l" (el) and "1" (one) are not distinguishable. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, but this seems to be the same error! And this was exactly after upgrading to KDE-4.1.1. Mime database seems to be broken.

Oh, KDE3 is working fine with the same user. I've tried also to delete .kde4, but same errors. This time starting applications from panel.

Well, I use Evolution, and I have to hit Ctrl+l (el) to reply to list, there is no replay to list button. It depends on the client. I may be able to add a reply to list button never tried. -- Michael S. KDE4 is using user settings from ~.kde directory to create ~.kde4, so if it picks up wrong things from there, it will show the same error, every time. Renaming/deleting ~.kde4 only is not enough. While it can be some missing library, you should try to create new user and start only KDE4 from there. I have the latest KDE4 (revision 40.4), and I can't see problems opening files, nor messed desktop icons. System is 64 bits. ...

When folder containing email is under Mail List Management (menu Folder > Mail List Management), than click on Reply will send reply to the list. Otherwise it will go direct to the sender. That is the reason I use keyboard shortcut "l" (el). I have some folders that can't be configured with Mail List Management as they have messages from mail lists mixed with others, and I select manually what reply option to use instead to think what Reply button will do. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK, error was: file permission in /usr/share/mime was set to 600 (root). Dunno why. I am using root only for updates. I set it now to 644 and everything is fine again! -- Frank Fiene / IT-Services Fon: +49 2526 29-6200 Fax: +49 2526 29-16-6200 mailto: ffiene@veka.com www.veka.com VEKA AG Dieselstr. 8 48324 Sendenhorst Deutschland/Germany Vorstand: Andreas Hartleif (Vorsitzender), Dr. Andreas W.
