Government slams Microsoft's antitrust proposal Responding to Microsoft's suggested remedy in its antitrust case, the U.S. Department of Justice said the software company's proposal 'would leave it free to continue' illegal anticompetitive behavior. http://www.computerworld.com/home/print.nsf/CWFlash/000518E01E -- ----/ / _ Fred A. While I appreciate the fact that SuSE increases the default number of file descriptors that the system allocates, it would be nice if the folks at SuSE would also increase the default number of inodes (/usr/src/linux/fs/inode.c, #define MAX_INODE (16384)) - the recommended suggestion is to set this value to 3-4 times that of file_max. This would mean that the default value would change from 16384 to at least 32768. Hey Folks, The oldlib6.rpm, xshared.rpm and gnats.rpm from the FTP distro of 6.4 seem to be corrupt. RPM complains when trying to install these packages... and yes, I've tried to re-download them... several times and to different machines. - Herman -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I found the following part particularly amusing - ESPECIALLY the part about the hidden icon!: Microsoft asked Jackson to reject the U.S. government's "radical request" to break up the company. Instead, the software giant proposed a set of behavioral restrictions, including placing limits on the way it deals with its Windows customers and offering a version of its Windows operating system that hides the icon for Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser -- Yatsen Ng yatsenng@casema.net It said "Needs Windows 98 or better." Hell, it even happens with software from outside sources, like AutoDesk, some of their help tools only support IE thus when you install it you have to install IE as well which again, reassociates everything with IE. yn> -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - www.primenet.com/~tomas SuSE Linux v6.3+ - Kernel 2.2.14 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
How about voiding there shrink wrap licence so there could be a class action suit to deal with the constant rebooting , blue screen of death and system woes ? Os especialy bad on a kids system where your allways adding / removing kids games and software. I reinstall every 4 months now , some times sooner on the home/kids machine. Here at wrk its a lot more stabel , so I only reload they system once a year. (now that I said it was mor stable , watch it crap out on me agian) At least with linux , the only way I have broken it was removing packages. Had it lock up only once in two years , on one of four system pushed into linux service since then. Way to GO Linux. At 12:21 AM 5/20/2000 +0000, Yatsen Ng wrote:

I've been meaning to ask this group about that. I really miss that BSOD. How can I make Linux do this? :-)
games and software. I reinstall every 4 months now , some times sooner on the home/kids machine. I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question but have you made a backup CD of your kids system? I made a backup CD using Drive Image and it has been real handy. With this I can feel free to experiment with adding and removing programs and I can just restore the system from the CD.

Nope , not silly at all , I dont have a writeable cd rom , just plian old cd rom , not tape either. You know kids , ythey have to try every game they get , and a lot of them tend to use modified dll , and write over any they find. Its a real flaky problem , and I am starting to suspect a system component problem , as the case whirs real loudly some times . Maybee a cooling problem . When I first installed the mb I put the atx powere two pin jumper in the wrong piuns and nealy fried the mb. Any way the two wires were fused / burnt together , so I cut them ot the start of the power supplyy and taped the ends. reset every thing and it worked fine. You just cant power the sytem by pressing the space bar on the key board. So I am starting to suspect a cooling problem due the the whiring noise. Its a AMD 400 and I may just build a new pc , and use the older one as a linux box. I am also thinking of loading linux and leaving it run , and see it it crashes ect... If it does , then its a hardware problem , if not its a M$ problem.

Easy way is to run the "Black Screen of Death" screensaver, which is standard in KDE and xscreensaver - it cycles through the crash screens of a number of operating systems including Windows 95 and NT and Linux Or I suppose you could hack the kernel code so that the kernel-panic is displayed in blue in an NT-like way, but you'll still have a job on your hands getting the panic to actually happen (could throw some random bytes into some driver module code I suppose... :-) -- Rachel -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
