One thing I miss when I'm in S.u.S.E. is the download status indicator in ftp. FreeBSD must use a newer ftp because it has one. I don't mind using ncftp, but I really prefer plain vanilla ftp if possible. Is there a package I can get off the S.u.S.E. ftp site to upgrade ftp? Thanks in advance. -- .###. /#######\## -==============================================- ;##### ;# Mike's WindowMaker ;##### ;# <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html"><A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org/windowmaker.html</A</A>> \# /## -==============================================- ###'---'#### - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
I trust youve tried the 'hash' and 'tick' commands? On Mon, 7 Sep 1998, Michael Lankton wrote:

Ok, 'tick' is what I want. Since this is a command entered while in the client, how can I set up ftp to do it by default like FreeBSD does? I would just alias ftp='ftp -tick', but alas, it isn't an option but a command. At the FTP prompt enter the command, "tick" or "hash". "tick" counts the number of bytes in 10K increments and "hash" prints a hash "#" character for each 1K bytes transferred. I tend to use "tick" for monitoring FTP transfers. Tony Michael Lankton wrote:

yes, I'm aware that I can just enter 'tick' at the prompt while in the ftp client. FreeBSD does tick by default and I would like to do so with S.u.S.E. as well. Anthony Schlemmer wrote:

Hi! Trying to kill the keyboard, mlankton@home.com produced:

Add to your ~/.netrc: --------------- default macdef init tick --------------- (with the empty line) After you log on the host, tick will be issued to your ftp automatically. If you're talkin' 'bout command line ftp, just give it a "tick" command before you start your download. -------------------------------------------- Brad Shelton bshelton@ole.net On Line Exchange <A HREF="http://ole.net"><A HREF="http://ole.net</A">http://ole.net</A</A>> Detroit News <A HREF="http://detnews.com"><A HREF="http://detnews.com</A">http://detnews.com</A</A>> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
