Epson Releases Linux Drivers for Stylus C84
Epson KOWA have released Linux drivers for some of their Stylus printers. They are available at this link: http://www.epkowa.co.jp/english/linux_e/DL1_ink_e.html I have been testing the C84 driver under CUPS (SuSE 8.2 w/ KDE 3.2.2) for the past few days. Printing with full bleed works fine, and applications no longer complain when you set the page margins to zero. I can't say I see any speed improvement, but the lower quality settings produce higher quality output than the various C82 drivers I had been using. I hope this is helpful. I was excited to read this until I discovered that the driver requires an older and security-suspect version of libssl.so.0.9.6 Since I previously loaded openssl.so.0.9.7 I cannot regress to the older version (over 100 dependencies are impacted, many appear to be irreversibly so). Any idea if they intend to update so as to permit functionality w/the later improved-security version of the dependencies libcrypto and libssl? -- 73, doc kd4e West Central Florida

Again..... gimp-print 4.3.25 provides print support for the Epson C84, ppd files and all. Althought, it is _necessary_ to read the doc's. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711
