Anyone on the list notice that FORTRAN is missing from SUSE 9.3? Since I'm an Old Fart who still uses FORTRAN I'm wandering what to do. The version of gcc on 9.3 is 3.3.5 while on 9.2 it is 3.3.4. I'm not sure I can install g77 from SUSE 9.2 on a 9.3 system. Any ideas? It's not missing from my DVD-based install of 9.3: % g77 --version GNU Fortran (GCC) 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux) Copyright (C) 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Any ideas?
Inspect your installation media via YaST Install & Remove. Use the DVD if it's not on the CDs.

Thanks, There IS the problem. I went the cheap route and downloaded the 5 CD iso files and installed SUSE 9.3. Is there an SUSE ftp site where the gcc-g77*.rpm file can be downloaded? I bought the 9.2 Pro version and thought I'd skip 9.3 but the 5 CD iso files were so tempting to try out 9.3. So far 9.3 seems pretty good (never had a problem with 9.2). I did a search and the first mirror that turned up was from the Technical University of Clausthal (<http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/>). If you trust their packages not to be corrupt, then retrieve the g77 package from there: <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586>, <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm>. All the GCC RPMs appear to be there: <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-c++-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-debuginfo-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-g77-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-info-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-java-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> <http://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/SuSE-9.3/suse/i586/gcc-locale-3.3.5-5.i586.rpm> By the way, the .../586 link is a catch-all with hundreds and hundreds of links (about 2 megabytes of HTML, pretty much noting but links). I'd avoid it if possible and just retrieve the RPM link using wget. There are doubtless other repositories and mirrors, but this is the first one I came accross. Good luck.

Any of the standard SUSE mirrors will do. I always use ftp.gwdg.de or ftp.mirror.ac.uk, but you should be able to find faster mirrors depending on your geographical location. As you use Fortran, it might be of interest to you to know that the newer gcc versions now support F95 instead of F77. (I can't remember which one it is). /Per Jessen, Zürich

I believe it's on the DVD, but not the CDs. (This was the case for SuSE 9.2) Buddy Coffey Advanced Electromagnetics

This is like deja vu all over again. ;-) Didn't someone ask this exact question recently? As I replied then, it is included on the DVD, but not installed by default.
