[SuSE Linux] scsi kernel confguration problem...
hi... i was trying to compile a new kernel from the linux-2.0.33.SuSE directory with scsi support... the compilation failed with the following message: gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fn o-strength-reduce -pipe -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o hosts.o h osts.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fn o-strength-reduce -pipe -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o scsi.o sc si.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -fn o-strength-reduce -pipe -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o scsi_ioct l.o scsi_ioctl.c scsi_ioctl.c: In function `scsi_ioctl': scsi_ioctl.c:356: duplicate case value scsi_ioctl.c:351: this is the first entry for that value make[3]: *** [scsi_ioctl.o] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/drivers/scsi' make[2]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/drivers/scsi' make[1]: *** [sub_dirs] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.0.33.SuSE/drivers' make: *** [linuxsubdirs] Error 2 kernel seems to compile fine when i don't need to use the scsi driver directories, i.e. without scsi support...?? then as an alternate plan i got a copy of a 2.0.36 kernel, placed it with a sym link in /usr/src/linux and tried to configure a new kernel with it... however make menuconfig gave me this error message: rj-suse:/usr/src/linux-2.0.36 # make menuconfig rm -f include/asm rm: include/asm: is a directory make: *** [symlinks] Error 1 would be great if anyone cold offer any feedback... rj ********************************************************************** rj fleck 715 ashbury street san francisco, ca 94117-4013 phone: (415) 661-9067 fax: (415) 661-9271 internet: rjfleck@ccrma.stanford.edu ********************************************************************** - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Seems your source tree is messed up. Try: cd /usr/src rm -rf linux linux-2.0.36 tar xfz /<somewhere>/linux-2.0.36.tgz ln -s linux-2.0.36 linux cd linux make menuconfig - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
