[opensuse] KDE: SWITCH USER does not allow X11 remote access tools
I had this under a different subject but I figured I would repost my answer so other people may benefit from my discovery. The KDE "Switch User" function will not allow you to use X windows tools to the second (or more) logins. IE: use the kde menu and select "Switch User" and login as another user. Xhost + Echo $DISPLAY will show a :1 Then try this command from another computer on the network. xeyes -display unix:1 <-- unix is the destination host name. Will not work under SuSE 11.0 KDE 3. If you create the second login via XDMCP or VNC you will have the SAME DISPLAY=:1 as you did with the switch user. And then the xeyes -display unix:1 works! This may not be a bug but the work around is to compare the $HOST to the "-display HOST:1" and if the hostnames are the same remove the hostname from the "-display"! I hate kludge code but if I remember to do this in my code it will work.
