Hi List, After a couple of weeks of not being used I tried to scan some stuff in with my HP6250 scanjet today and got an failed to open device /dev/scanjet error with sane. XVscan also reports the same error. I have actually had that before and gotten rid of it by rebooting the machine. Right now I don't want to reboot as I have a lengthy calculation running which I don't want to interrupt. So, here is my question: shouldn't it be possible to probe the scanner and reset it as well as the SCSI connection? I have tried to power cycle the scanner which didn't improve the situation. Well, actually, the garbage that was reported back from /dev/scanjet by xvscan is now gone but it is still not accessible. So, I poked around a bit in the docs and tried removing and re-adding the scsi device by:
echo "scsi remove-single-device 0 0 2 0" >/proc/scsi/scsi echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 2 0" >/proc/scsi/scsi
which didn't help either. Is anybody out there who could help me with a pointer in the right direction? For further info on the problem here is:
