Does anyone run Evolution 1.2.1 on Suse 8.1 with out any problems...? I see that the one with 8.1 is only 1.0.8 & I would like to try out it's new features... Is there a possibility that by trying it out, it could make the desktop unstable? Has anyone had any snags in testing it out? Tia Dre

Works for me from www.usr-local-bin.org and plenty of others are using those packages too

I wouldn't have thought so -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1). GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
i'm using evolution 1.2.1 on suse8.1 for my daily business. absolutely fine. think the easiest way to try the latest evolution is to download "red-carpet" form ximian.org, but without the desktop (in case you don't want to download the ximian desktop). it's an simple install-tool, you don't have to compile stuff. easy! in older versions i sometimes had the problem that evolution crashed when adding a lot of contacts. but it never made the whole system unstable. i always could restart evolution after again without any problems. cheers, floh arawak wrote:

Be very careful with dearCarpet - I tried it on my 8.0 box and it destroyed dependancies so badly it as faster to nuke the box and reinstall everything ! => -----Original Message----- => From: Florian Vigyikan [mailto:supafloh@gmx.com] => Sent: Tuesday, 17 December 2002 6:55 PM => To: suse-linux-e@suse.com => Subject: Re: [SLE] Evolution 1.2.1 => => => i'm using evolution 1.2.1 on suse8.1 for my daily business. => absolutely fine. => => think the easiest way to try the latest evolution is to download => "red-carpet" form ximian.org, but without the desktop (in => case you don't => want to download the ximian desktop). it's an simple => install-tool, you => don't have to compile stuff. easy!

Use the Advanced Package Tool (apt) instead. APT's primary goal is to keep the rpm database dependency relations consistent. More about it at: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm -- Richard
