-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi SuSE list users, dia duit! I've never used Linux apart from a Win Mandrake 7 install I did last week to see what the fuss was about and then a brief look at someone's SuSE setup, so would appreciate some help. Please could someone advise me on the following: 1. I ordered SuSE 7 Pro a couple of days ago and am in the process of building a new box to install it on. Can anyone tell me whether SuSE supports the following: * Promise ATA 100 controller * IBM ATA 100 drives If it does it would solve a lot of my problems with hard IDE devices. 2. Can anyone point me to the following: * online tutorials to help hardened Windows users with the concepts and switch over to Linux. * tutorials for beginners on Networking with Linux (I've got my own peer-to-peer and I would want to add the Linux system to the network) 3. Last, any advice on first time installation would be very much appreciated. I will be installing WIndows 2000 Pro on one 20 gig IBM ATA 100 hd and SuSE on another identical 20 gig IBM ATA hd - -- Thanks SImon http://www.netbanger.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5i Comment: Privacy is freedom. Yes, it does. I would recommend using the EIDE Kernel with this type of configuration. I would look in the disks directory of the 1st CD .. it has instructions on how to make the EIDE boot disk. It's simple. --> 2. You should be able to find what your looking for either in one of the four books that comes with it or from the online docs. Remember this man is your best friend. If you get stuck you can try somehthing like this at a prompt.... man fetchmail This would of course give you info on fetchmail. --> 3. Make a 10M partition at the beginning of the 1st hard drive so that when you install Linux it can be labeled /boot and used for the kernel and such. You can then use the rest of the first drive for Win2k and the second drive for Linux. If you have any other questions just ask..and remember have fun with it! -- Cheers, Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ------------------------- "The only 'intuitive' interface is the nipple.
