I pretty much need a Java runtime, yes. Partly because several sites I use provide Java applets, but mostly because I make the bulk of my living teaching people to write programs in Java :) Though it's a fair question, for sure.
I don't see a versions tab, nor any radio buttons. Hopefully the attached screenshot sheds some light...
Am I missing something? Using the wrong Yast? Completely blind, or terminally insane perhaps? I could believe anything lately :)

We are definately using different package management tools. This is 10.3 right?
From KDE I do "alt-F2" "kdesu yast2" Click on Software Management,
I have a totally different dialog box than what you show. Then search for firefox. Then click on the versions tab at the bottom and move the radio button to the version you want. I'm about done for the day, so if that doesn't work for you maybe someone else can help you out. I don't speak for SGI in this forum. To get the QT qui instead of the Gnome GUI, I use Gnome but for software management I much prefer the QT version. Create a .yast2 directory in /root. Then copy /etc/sysconfig/yast2 to ~root/.yast2/yast2 and edit it to use qt. Assuming you have the qt libraries installed and yast2-qt, you should be able to get the qt yast software management GUI. I find I have to ssh -X root@localhost /sbin/yast2 with the above changes to get it.
