Gentlemen, I am trying to make with that my SuSE Linux uses a connection that comes of my Cable modem, using dhcp in mine eth0, when I initiate rcnetworks it I inform the following one to me : eth0 ...... no IP address yet.....backgrounding What I need to make besides informing that eth0 goes to use DHCP, needs to edit some script or some archive of configuration? Fabio, Usually nothing else is needed to kick off the cable modem. In my case, it was just a matter of connecting the modem, starting dhcp and logging in to the internet. Are you sure that your ISP is using dhcp and you are not actually static? Have you checked to see if the eth0 is talking to the modem? Have you tried rcnetwork stop, resetting the modem, unplug the power, wait about 10 seconds and reconnect, then do rcnetwork start? The important thing is that you can get on the net once you are logged in. The message does _not_ mean that you can _not_ get on the net. On and off I get that message on startup, however I can always get on the net once I log in. I don't know, but perhaps it just means something like: "Getting you an adress takes a little while. I will fetch an address for you in the background while the rest of the startup continues." Gan you get on the net once you log in? Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

The other thing that comes to mind is firewalling. If your firewall is errected _before_ hdcpcd tries to go out and get a DHCP address, the firewall will frequently block the replies from the DHCP server. So, you might want to try making sure that the firewall is shut down before aquiring the address, then starting it. Ideally, I guess, you'd have a setup that allows _only_ DHCP replies, fire up dhcp, then enable other access through the firewall; I don't know if modern SuSE firewalls have that type of capability or not. -Nick
I already disconnect and bound to the Cable Modem, already I made rcnetworks
stop start restart status, and always receive the same message...... in the
IP address yet.....backgrounding, and dhcpd and eth0 not running, exists
some additional configuration that is not to set dhcp in ethernet?
