Hello All, Trying to install 9.0 Personal without success!! System is AMD Athlon 500, 256meg mem, 10g Ext2 partition set up with Partition Magic and using BootMagic to dual boot. Process starts OK from CD1 or CD2 but stops after:- "starting yast" - then a further 2 lines. Then the dreaded RED BOX with "an error occured during the installation" quickly appears, I cannot stop this appearing to be able to give you full details of the last 10 lines or so of the sequence. This happens at exactly the same point whether I try:- Installation Installation - ACPI Disabled Installation - Safe settings Manual or whether BootMagic is activated or not. Any ideas, I really want to use Linux.(totally fed up with Uncle Bill) Tried distro 6.4 a few years ago but finally gave up after 8 months of pure hassle, and a lot of help from this list, but at least it loaded and dual booting worked fine, thought this latest distro would be somewhat easier !! Well, it's always possible that you have a bad CD. I have no idea how to check that out, though, short of getting another one. Don Henson

Hi Mike I haven't got 9.0 yet but had similar problems in 8.2. Starting installation in text mode worked for me as there was an initial conflict with the graphics set up. The other thing I did - using Partition Commander instead of PartitionMagic - albeit with a seperate hard drive for SuSE, was once the partition was formatted with FAT16/32 (cant remember which) I unstalled the partition software and started the instalation. When I ran with text only it all went smoothly. Hope this is of some use. Humvee

Tried that, same result - stops !! Also tried from my 2nd ROM drive with both CD1 & 2, and at every resolution setting on the SuSe startup screen and with every installation option. There does not appear to be a problem with the CD's as I can read the contents using Win98, no errors shown. Thanks for your suggestion, it could have worked. Mike L

This is a question for tech support. You have 60 or 90 days free support for this sort of problem, and they are usually quite good. And do let us know when you get it going. David
