As far as I can tell they only have viewers for ... guess what? Microsoft Windows.
Open Office does very nicely. Big improvement over Star Office 5.2. Also, kpresenter does PowerPoint presentations. On 28 Aug 2002 at 10:52, propheci wrote:

Gil, Kpresenter is part of the KOffice suite! You should be able to start it as part of the KOffice workspace or as a standalone program. Patrick -- --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.0 --- Amiga, SuSE Linux, PC Sales & Service Magic Page Products

I installed KOffice and then found a serious problem. KWord will import and display Word documents without problem. KSpread will import and display Excel spreadsheets without problem. But Kpresenter absolutely locks up my box. Does not import PowerPoint presentations. Only gets as far as starting to open itself -- a large, grey box appears on screen with a couple of icons. Then my computer is locked tight. Can not use the process killer. Cannot even use Control/Alt/Backspace to reset. Absolutely no response from anything. Does not matter if I open Kpresenter first and then try to open a document or right click on the PP file in my home directory and tell it to "open with" Kpresenter. In either case the computer locks. Any ideas? Thanks. Gil

Any ideas? Thanks. Gil =================== Gil, Don't know what version of KOffice you have there. If you are using SuSE 8.0 and only installed the version from the CDs, then by all means update your KOffice as it has gotten much better! My version is: koffice-1.2rc1-20. But, I must appologize also as I have not tried a PowerPoint file in KPresenter for a while. KPresenter is still a work in progress, so does not handle PP files very well. My version will

So, it sounds like you need to update KOffice and possibly get either StarOffice 6.0 or OpenOffice (it's free sister program) 1.0.1 available on openoffice.org! Patrick, thanks for this additional info. I am using StarOffice 6.0 for PP and it works just fine. But I was intrigued by the posting that mentioned using Kpresenter. I was just hoping to see if it offered me anything special compared to SO6.0. Clearly it does not. Thanks. :o) Gil
BTW: I have been having a problem with Open Office (both 1.0 and 1.0.1) where after saving my presentation as a .ppt, neither Power Point nor Open Office displays the slides properly. In most cases the slides were originally produced with Star Office 5.2 and either read into OO or pasted into OO. I have filed an IssueZilla on Open Office and have received a good response back. (BTW: It does work with SO 6.0, but I prefer using an Open Source solution). -- Jerry Feldman Enterprise Systems Group Hewlett-Packard Company 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/
That's not good. I am working on a new charter school here in Alaska to use Linux as the desktop for students. These issues turn off school board members quick. Thanks for posting. /Dee On (28/08/02 16:52), Jerry Feldman wrote:
