Re: [SLE] mount: only superuser can mount

Evening
create groups 'floppy' and 'cdrom'
chown /floppy and /cdrom to these groups
I did this bit and nothing changed!
suid /bin/mount as well
I did this bit and it worked, I even used this without making the groups. Question using suid in this way does this make system unsecure as reading in security matters should not use suid wherever possible.
Then make your users belong to those groups.
Did not have to as I just used suid on mount and umount.
This seems a little long winded to allow users to mount a floppy or cdrom. By default I believe SuSE installs /etc/fstab with the mount option of user; so your mount options in fstab may look like: /dev/hdc /cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto, user, exec 0 /dev/fd0 /floppy auto noauto, user 0 0 In this case all a user needs to do is: mount /cdrom or mount /dev/hdc for example to mount the cdrom. Hope this helps.
