As root -> kcontrol -> system -> login management -> session tab Add here the missing session. (I did it by heart so the seqeunce may be a little of, but hope fully you get the idea) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Thanks for trying, but if there had been a "session" tab I never would have started the thread. :-( Kcontrol tabs for login management are: Appearance Font Background Shutdown Users Convenience -- "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Which version ? However, look for the file /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc add xcfe4 to SessionTypes and that should do it (I hope ;): :/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm # grep SessionTypes $PWD/kdmrc SessionTypes=kde,windowmaker,fvwm2,twm,failsafe, -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Whatever comes with 9.1 & the most recent updates, unlike my 8.2 system, on which tab 4 is "Sessions" instead of "Shutdown".

That types list matches what I found, but it turns out changing that isn't necessary. I subscribed to the xfce mailing list and got an answer there: /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/sessions/xfce.desktop needed to be changed from: ... [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Type=XSession Exec=xfce TryExec=xfce Name=XFce ... to: ... [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Type=XSession Exec=startxfce4 TryExec=startxfce4 Name=XFce4 ... Now that xfce is working, I have to figure out how to get a lot more apps into some quickstarter - there is no applications menu (that I have found so far) like in KDE or windoze. :-p -- "[W]hoever finds me finds life....[A]ll who hate me love death."
