[S.u.S.E. Linux] YaST, kerneld, PS/2 mouse

Thanks, you were right about YaST, but my mouse still doesn't work.
For
some strange reason when LILO boots the kernel, 2.0.30 runs and no kerneld or mouse support. But if I boot off of the bootdisk I made during the install, then 2.0.33 runs and I have no problems. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance. Kevin.
Sounds like the default kernel you installed does not have ps2 mouse or kerneld suppot rolled in as a default. Try rolling your own kernel with support rolled in. You might run this one by Bodo at SuSe. This may be a flaw in the paticular kernel you chose. I have never experienced this with a SuSE kernel, so I don't believe it to be the correct behavior.
The fact that YaST keeps comeing up would indicate you didn't let
's work. there's a point there where it runs a bunch of setup
YaST >finish it scripts >(you can
see the output on... tty9, I think). Many first time SuSErs like to reboot here . I know I did.
Yup.. if you reboot before the scripts finish you'll mess up the install so that it will start Yast each time. I've mentioned this to the powers that be (Bodo are you listening) and what I found was that even after rebooting three or four times and letting the scripts complete, Yast would still restart. The cure is as folows.. cd /usr/lib/YaST lls -la | more and you should fine a file called .configured2 If you have COMPLETELY INSTALLED and booted into YaST at least THREE times, you can correct the boot behavior of SuSE by deleting the file .configured2

I've just installed suse 5.1 and I have three problems that may be related to each other. One is that every time I reboot, YaST comes
up.
Once it sees that there is nothing to do it closes. The next thing I noticed is that kerneld is not started. Then I get the message from gpm that my ps2 mouse is not found. I do have alias char-major-10 psaux in my /etc/conf.modules and /dev/mouse linked to /dev/psaux. My mouse did work when I first installed and it lets you test gpm. It also worked when after installing everything YaST closes and brings you to the command line for the first time. But after I rebooted my mouse wasn't found. Any Ideas? --
I hope this helps. On the kerneld and PS/2 mouse problem it sounds like the kernel you are running has neither kerneld or PS/2 support. Try rolling a new kernel with support for these services.
