I am first starting with Linux and Suse 9.0. After much fiddling I mangaged to properly configure wlan0 on my Dell Latitude C400 to allow me to ping my router, a Linksys BEFW1154 wireless router, and to access the configuration program on the router. However, I cannot reach the internet. For example, trying to reach www.google.com returns the error "Unknown host www.google.com". (I can reach the internet using the ethernet port on the Dell.) What I am doing wrong? jdj
Hi, How did you configure DNS? There should be at least one nameserver entry in /etc/resolv.conf. This can be done manually - sometimes you can enter your routers IP because it takes care of forwarding DNS requests, and sometimes you have to use the DNS server IP(s) from your provider directly (the router doesn't do anything else it's just less to remember if it forwards it for you). If you use DHCP (he router is a dhcp server and when you boot your WLAN client it gets it's IP address from the router automatically) DNS should be set automatically and if it isn't you have to see if your router knows the DNS servers in the first place (if not it can't tell your client via DHCP, obviously).
