I have been using SuSE 9.0 very successfully until suddenly when I dial = with kppp the log returns:- ATZ error After this the dialer hangs. If I use Kinternet the log states Z error After this it tries 3 times and hangs.

I am writing this with the dreaded Win XP, which proves the modem and = connection is still functioning.

Try changing your modem-init string to 'AT&F1'

(It will be in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ppp0)

This is based on the guess that something is wrong with your stored ATZ configuration.
