[opensuse] can't put app on desktop
Some applications seem to be only placeable on the panel, even tho I want them on the desktop. One I'm thinking of right now is ConvertAll. Is there a way to change this behavior? When you post a question, always indicate which openSUSE version you are using and the Desktop Environment. Assuming you are using KDE: Find and then drag-and-drop the desired app from the taskbar Menu to the Desktop. You will get a pop-up; click on "link" and an icon will be placed on the desktop which works exactly like the one in the Menu. --dg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Maybe. It depends on how the desktop is configured. Perhaps it is "Folder View", perhaps not. KDE, Plasma, is VERY configurable! Not all configurations permit all operations. Yes, posting questions should indicate the OS, level and version of the relevant application, as well as relevant details pertaining to configuration. I'd add, as an answer, that with the KDE panels, some things are widget and not applications and as such might be limited in where they can be placed. -- “Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it’s conspiracy theories or free-market,” -- James Glattfelder. http://jth.ch/jbg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There is an [ ] show icons on desktop setting somewhere that may come into play. I'm not sure where they moved it in plasma. It was in kcontrol->Desktop->Behavior on K3, so I'm sure something similar exists in plasma system settings. -- David C. They've been moving such things all over the place. From what I've seen from googling for this, it may be in a stable location now, as per my reply to Doug. Then again, it might not be ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Right click on the desktop, select "Configure Desktop" in the popup menu. This opens the Desktop Containment settings panel. Select "Wallpaper" in that panel. Change "Layout" (popdown) to "Folder View", click on Apply Now. Icons will now appear on the desktop. The panel will remain open. The icons are pretty large by default. You can change the size by clicking on Icons in the same panel. Icon size is a slider bar about halfway down. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
