Hello: I recently attempted to automatically update my Suse Linux 8.0 and after having done so am no longer able to launch the kernel, i.e., I get a KERNEL PANIC unable to mount root ~ error message. I am however able to mount the root using the rescue system, and able to boot normally from the installation disk. Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this? THANKS very much for your help. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Dennis

Use the boot installed system option and once the machine is booted you should run these commands.. mk_initrd && lilo This will most likely fix your problem. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. Trust me, it doesn't solve the problem... I've been there... and I've reinstalled the old 2.4.18 kernel or the 2.4.19 (patched) kernel Regards, Radu ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben Rosenberg" <ben@whack.org> To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2003 10:36 AM Subject: Re: [SLE] kernel panic the
