Guys, Just a quick sanity check. Is xdmcp working on 11.3? I have given it a shot and I just end up with the gray screen and x-cursor in the middle, but nothing else. I found a couple of threads related to it not working in 11.3, but they were months old: http://lists4.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2010-08/msg05615.html I have displaymanager set as follows and a hole in the firewall: DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm4" DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN="" DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN="no" DISPLAYMANAGER_AD_INTEGRATION="no" DISPLAYMANAGER_SHUTDOWN="auto" DISPLAYMANAGER_RANDR_MODE_VGA="" DISPLAYMANAGER_RANDR_MODE_auto="1024x768_60 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 795 -HSync +Vsync" DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER="Xorg" KDM_USERS="" KDM_GREETSTRING="" DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME="lzfy-kde4" DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_LOCALARGS="" Still now xdmcp. Only reason I'm curios in it is the darn keystroke repeat that has still never been (and probably can't be) fixed. So for limited testing, I wanted xdmcp. Anybody have it working? If so, what's the trick? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have displaymanager set as follows and a hole in the firewall:
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm4" DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN="" DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN="no" DISPLAYMANAGER_AD_INTEGRATION="no" DISPLAYMANAGER_SHUTDOWN="auto" DISPLAYMANAGER_RANDR_MODE_VGA="" DISPLAYMANAGER_RANDR_MODE_auto="1024x768_60 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 795 -HSync +Vsync" DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER="Xorg" KDM_USERS="" KDM_GREETSTRING="" DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME="lzfy-kde4" DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_LOCALARGS=""

I got it working. It seems that when you set yast -> Security & Users -> Open Firewall: "For Remote Access to Display Manager" -- the firewall is NOT opened. There is also a bug in yast reporting the status of the security status for double-negative "Disable Remote Access to the X server - disabled" As you can see in the settings in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager (in the screenshot below the yast window), remote access is enabled 'DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes"' despite being listed as 'disabled' in yast: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/openSUSE/113/yast-xdmcp.jpg Manually opening the firewall allowed xdmcp to work (with no annoying multi-unintentional-keyboard-repeat :) -- David C.
