[opensuse] ATI proprietary driver, should I, and how? 11.4
I have seen about a dozen means to do it. The OSS driver is surprisingly good, but I want more performance for a couple games. First off, should I swith to fglrx? Secondly, why isn't there something simple like the NVidia repo? Running 11.4 Gnome. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I switched our office desktops to fglrx long ago (on 11.4) - even the desktop was slow and unwieldy. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.7°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You mean it became slow and unwieldy after using fglrx? OR they were until you did so? The latter seems much more in line with what I have read. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Sorry, I wasn't being clear - yes, it was slow until I switched to fglrx. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, * Install the fglrx package from this repo: http://geeko.ioda.net/mirror/ati/openSUSE_11.4/ * Restart * Done I have been using it for years. It is updated monthly and it is by and large stable and works great for desktop usage and compositing. I am not playing games though so I can't tell if it works for that but I think that the 3D features and performance are better than with the opensource driver.
