[opensuse] What changed on list - replies no longer address list by default?
All, With this drive Load_Cycle thread (and it my replies to others) I've notice hitting 'reply' no longer puts the list address in the 'To:' field in Tbird (haven't updated it in a while -- so no change there. Has something changed in the way the list is administered that would prevent the list address from automatically being used as the Reply-Address? In the past it was just the stray message, or message from a broken thread that wouldn't set the reply-to correctly. Is it the list, or am I just getting senile? -- David C. No idea about your mental health, but in my thunderbird I must click on "reply to list"; "reply" puts the original sender in the to-field, which happens sometimes to me. In old days when there was a working kmail available it was really the list address when responding to a list mail, but in thunderbird it was "always" (since the launch of kmail 4) as it is now. -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Barcelona http://www.daniel-bauer.com room in Barcelona: https://www.airbnb.es/rooms/2416137 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Its always been this way David, because no MUA I know of uses the List-Post: header as the default. A few have the ability to be configured for it but none set it by default, and the list has always given the submitters name as the Sender, rather than the list. The excuse for this somewhat nonstandard behavior was to take conversaitons off list as a default, which will get you screamed at around here. People have bitching about this for years on this list. But no amount of pressure can be brought to bear on getting this changed until after the death or Heine. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

mutt will provided you advise it that opensuse is a list.

"nonstandard" is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see it as "nonstandard", but you are welcome to *your* opinion as that *is* what you are expressing.

A few "people" have. I haven't noticed any change. I use mutt and it automagically replies *only* to the list. I have to do group-reply and edit in order to selectively post to other than the list only. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This list has several vocal people antagonized when Hene's carved-in-stone RFC 822/2822 munging-is-a-cardinal-sin policy gets handled by anyone who uses a reply-all button to get the reply addressed to include the last receive path address, the last without which the post would never have been received. Much of this clique has its email clients configured with a reply-to so that when responders click either a reply or reply-all button, the destination is to list only, which, counter to Hene/2822 policy, is the only logical destination for most replies to most mailing list posts. Thus, confusion, and seeming senility, are not unexpected when infrequent participants, particularly those who participate sporadically in more than a few non-opensuse.org lists, attempt a response to any @opensuse-org mailing list post. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Nothing has changed in this respect since year 2000 or earlier. Replies to post on the list go to the originator, not to the list. You have to either use "Reply to All", or "Reply to List", on those few mail clients that support it (Like Thunderbird since not that long ago). What may have changed is that your Thunderbird got updated and somehow lost that ability. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
