[opensuse] Re: 3 partitions vs. 11 partitions

Normally I would have created a much larger number of Linux partitions, for instance:
Win7 167 GB (shrinked by the Installation CD, as above) Swap 2 GB / 10 GB /usr 20 GB /opt 10 GB /var 5 GB /tmp 5 GB /boot 0.09 GB /srv 60 GB /data 60 GB /local 60 GB /home 52 GB
/usr on separate partition doesn't work any more since quite some time, boot-level actions need files from there. (The most prominent culprit is udev.) The rest is your choice, as discussed in the other messages. Agree - I have /, /home, /usr, /usr/local, /opt, /srv plus a few other non- system partitions. /lib definitely doesn't work on a separate partition though - it is needed during boot unless you build a monolithic kernel with all required drivers built in. Even then, there are probably files on /lib that are needed other than kernel modules. -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au =================================================== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
