Hi, I have SuSE Linux 7.0 box with Samba + sevaral Mac and PC workstations. After upgrading from Win98 to Win2k on 3 pcs they stopped to work with Samba. In fact, Samba server is not visible anymore neither in 'My Network Places -> Computers near me" neither in "Entire Network -> My Workgroup". No network settings have been changed, and I do not have NT Domain server whatsoever. I suspect something is wrong with tonneling of NetBIOS through TCP/IP, but could not figure out what. Thanks for any suggestions. Andrei
On one of the W2K systems try the following
1) Right click on My Network places and click properties
2) Right Click Local Area Connection and click properties
3) Select File and Printer Sharing and click properties
4) Check the box next to Make browser broadcast to LAN manager 2.x Clients
Sometimes W2K will not see or be seen by other none W2K systems and this needs
to be done.
The reason for this is W2K uses a newer Network Browsing client and
sometimes older clients don't see it and it doesn't see some older clients.
One other thing you could try if this doesn't work is change the
announce version option in your samba config file to either 4.0 or 5.0
just in case M$ put some sort of code in W2K to make it not see samba when it
broadcasts itself as any other version. Samba by default annouces itself as
Windows NT 4.2
If you make the annouce version to 4.0 or 5.0 samba will announce itself as
Windows NT 4.0 or 5.0(2k).
If this doesn't help check M$'s website to see if you can find anything
I would go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/
