[SuSE Linux] Netscape e-mail question
I have just installed Communicator 4.5 this morning and wow, what an improvement over 4.05 especially in the mail window. However there is only little thing that I can't find an option for that I could do in both Outlook Express and Outlook 98. I like to read messages in the preview window rather than opening a message window. I would like messages to remain unread until I explicitly mark them read. Is this possible? -- Steve Crane stevec@netlane.com <A HREF="http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A">http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

From what I've found, no. Unless there is an undocumented switch at startup that I have not discovered as yet. But in the preferences there is no option for this. -- Ec|ipse on EFnet - tomas@primenet.com - <A HREF="http://www.primenet.com/~tomas</A">http://www.primenet.com/~tomas</A> Ec|ipse@|Watcher| - <A HREF="http://pacific.undertow.net/~tomas/no-net.html</A">http://pacific.undertow.net/~tomas/no-net.html</A> Slackware Linux v3.6 - Kernels 2.0.35/2.1.131 - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Yeah, that's what I thought. Anyone know if Netscape has any lists or newsgroups for discussion of Communicator for Linux?

If netscape doesn't; perhaps AOL will start one? :) Seriously, I did the upgrade a few times now and am curious whether you find 4.5 stable? I had so many bus errors trying to launch a mailto: that I had to give up on 4.5 completely. Netscape 4.05 had problems too and 4.06 seems bad. I also tried stand alone 4.08. More of the same. Now I have downgraded (or in my case, upgraded) to 3.04. It does java, tables, forms. No mem leaks, no bus errors. I like it. -- Michael E. Hehe, the same errors with me. By the way, Sunsite currently contains an apparently new version of 4.5 in its Incoming direcory. I'm using 4.5. Awhile back I mention to Micheal Perry that I didn't have the "mailto:" shutdown problem. Then about a week later it started up and I went back to 4.03. After upgrading my motherboard, and XFree SVGA server, I put 4.5 back in. Surprise!!! No more "mailto:" problems, BUT now when I click to respond to a email, I get a message box " Netscape Sub-diagnoses: Warning: Type Conversion Failed" I just click OK, and everything works OK. Realaudio launches properly; but I do have the GIMP and Image Magic shutdown problem. Oh well, 6.0 is only a month away. :-) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I use 4.5 explicitly and have had no stability problems at all, occasionally though I have found that if you hit a webpage that causes one of those little popup netscape windows with additional hyperlinks to appear, if I would close it before it was completely loaded, sometimes it crashes out netscape. But that has happened only a few times.

Thats good!! It seems from some other email I got that various people have no problems, severe problems, or have decided to go another direction. I hope that opera comes soon; but... I think Netscape 3.04 maintains a higher standard of stability than the 4 series. The most stable web browser I have found though is lynx. I just cannot get the plug in to see the dirty pictures to work :) -- Michael E.
