[opensuse] Kernel question
Hi all, It seems that I need to upgrade my Kernel so that I can get my printer working. BUT I've never done this, I've always just waited and installed the newer SuSE. Anyway I'm using 11.2 SuSE with the kernel that came with it. Could someone point me to a "how to" to upgrade this kernel to the newest? What makes you think that upgrading a kernel is the only way to get your printer working? What printer is it? Petr -- Petr Uzel, openSUSE Boosters Team IRC: ptr_uzl @ freenode

I have an HP 1020 and one of the other guys on this list has it too. When he upgraded to 11.2 the printer would not work. But since he installed the newest kernel the printer works. SOOO I am guessing that I have the same problem. JIM -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For this printer, openprinting.org [1] suggest the foo2zjs driver [2]. Have you tried it? There's also opensuse-specific howto [3]. Hi Petr et al, As far as I can see I have the printer system set up correctly. But it still will not work. Anyway here is a copy of the email from one of the list members telling me what he did: ****************** Yes, now both my 1020 and p1005 are working. After I send the e-mail another kernel update was launch, I believe that this is the reason to the new driver installation work. I am using the last kernel update. ****************** This is why I think I need to update the kernel. Right now I'm using the kernel that came in the download. I've not changed it at all.
