"Neighbour table overflow"

I just put up a server system on 10.1 (text only) and am getting the message above in /var/log/messages about every two minutes. Anybody have a clue what is causing this?

He must have checked off the "experienced user" box. I think that's where it comes in. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Marshall" <bmarsh@bmarsh.com> To: "SuSE Users" <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Saturday, May 27, 2006 4:44 PM Subject: [SLE] "Neighbour table overflow"

The only neighbour table I know of is the ARP cache. The message thread beginning with this http://archive.linuxvirtualserver.org/html/lvs-users/2002-09/msg00238.html might be of use to you.

Thanks. I've been googling it and it seems people think it's either a problem with the loopback interface or that the network connection doesn't have enough space to keep track of it's neighbors. (I only have about 5 other machines) But fiddling with the network and a network restart seemed to have cured the problem. This is on a minimal install (no gui) which is a first for me and there are lots of things 'borken' at that level.....

PS The thread actually begins with http://archive.linuxvirtualserver.org/html/lvs-users/2002-09/msg00235.html, but the link I already posted seems to be the beginning of a serious attempt to resolve the problem. I haven't followed the other sub-threads.

A reboot seems to have cleared the problem.... (yeah, bug-fix windows style!) This is a minimal install and I think there are a bunch of things screwed up with such an install.... for instance it didn't install the Yast-printer configuration stuff. Had to go back and do that. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Have you made manual adjustments to preconfigured selection Minimal Installation? If not than it is time to visit http://bugzilla.novell.com and file bug report. -- Regards, Rajko.

I just came across a short thread at http://lists.debian.org/debian-isp/2002/01/msg00357.html suggesting that this can happen if the loopback device is not up.
