To install the NVIDIA driver you press "alt+F1" and while in console you enter "init 3". This disables some processes such as the desktop manager (kdm, gdm, etc ..). Now the actual install is straightforward. "sh NVIDIA-.run" or in case you have choosen to unpack the driver to the current directory with "sh NVIDIA-..run -x" then the install procedure is somewhat different: "./nvidia-installer"
Another scenario is having installed multiple kernels. In which case you only have to compile another kernel module aka: "sh NVIDIA-.run -K" or "./nvidia-installer -K"
Thank you for answer. Is there also a way to install the Nvidia driver (nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default) through the yast Nvidia repositories ( http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/10.3 )? This would make the install/upgrade/remove process a lot cleaner.
Compiling a kernel on OpenSUSE is simply:
1) cd /usr/src/path/to/kernel/source 2) make menuconfig 3)make rpm 4) rpm -ivh /usr/src/packages/x86/kernel-*.rpm 5) mkinitrd (makes again all needed initramfs images) 6) via YAST edit grub or any other bootloader 7) reboot
Thereis no need actually to manually influence symlinks unless you know what you are doing.
Why is that? Does these commands automatically change the symlinks? -- Regards, Aniruddha Please adhere to the OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
