Scanners for Suse Linux 10.1
I know that there is an extensive hardware compatibility list but there is a difference between compatibility and working well. Can anyone recommend a good colour/black and white flatbed scanner for Linux in general and Suse Linux 10.1 in particular. I noticed that Epson has a series of tools for use with their scanners under Linux. Has anyone tried using these and do they work well? The scanner is for home use so speed is not an issue and I mainly scan black and white documents along with the occasional picture. Thanks Ralph Ellis

My usb2 Epson Perfection 2400 Photo works perfectly. Has a back-lite for scanning slides/negatives. No problems configuring. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

I have never been able to get my Epson Perfection 2450 photo scanner to work with 10. Yes I read & tried all the tricks online & had expert help from 2 people on this list... It also is supposed to work with SuSE Linux according to the hardware compatibility list. I am hoping 10.1 will work. -- Gracia...Cooleemee, NC Registered Linux user #263390 - SuSE 10 Pro My country, right or wrong. If right, to be kept right, if wrong, to be put right.

Though not a scanner only, my Epson CX3200 MFP was recognized immediately under 10.1 and I test scanned a few documents after printing. -- k

I have an HP Scanjet 2200c and it's worked perfectly for several releases. I just plug it into the USB, and use Kooka... get excellent scans every time, and no hassle. Just works. More than I can say for the same scanner in Windows (it doesn't work right at all in Windows). C.

Maybe I haven't made myself clear...I KNOW most Epson scanners work easily with SuSE, BUT the Epson Perfection 2450 photo scanner seems to be a special problem...so I guess the question really is...has anyone who has an Epson Perfection 2450 photo scanner been able to get it to work in 10 or 10.1??? All the info I have found it at least 2 years old & doesn't help. Worked well with 9.2. -- Gracia...Cooleemee, NC Registered Linux user #263390 - SuSE 10 Pro My country, right or wrong. What application are you trying to use with your scanner? I have a Perfection 2480 Photo (usb) and SuSE 10.0 (now - I've used this scanner on everything since 9.0). Sane didn't work but it turns out Vuescan works perfectly. Both of these work beautifully: Epson 1200U Epson 1650 I use XSane. I have not tried Epson's tools. speed is not an issue and I mainly scan black and white documents along with the occasional picture. That's mostly what I use it for. The only thing is (and this doesn't have anything to do with the scanner itself) is I still get much better results scanning multipage documents (mixed content - images, text) to
HP PSC 1410 - Yast2 --> Scanner --> Bob's your uncle :-) Scans are of good quality, it's fairly silent too. pdf with the included windows software. :-) Hans
