Reply-To: Hi I have just downloaded all the updates for 6.3. In the manual it gives instructions for doing an upgrade from an earlier version to 6.3 but not for updating the current version. Is there a way to just point Yast at the local upadates directory tree and tell it just to upgrade installed packages or do I have to do each one by hand with "RPM -U" ? Hi Patrick, Assuming that all your rpm updates are in the same directory, you simply have to do rpm -Uvh *.rpm to update each and every packages you've downloaded: -U for the update, -v for the "verbose" mode, so you'll be informed of what exactly has been updated, and the -h flag to see the progress of each updating packages... ciao ________________ Nicolas Beaulieu Economics Department, Universite Laval Centre de Recherches en Economie et Finances Appliquees (CREFA) Quebec, Canada 418-626-5033 _________________ http://www.penguinpowered.com/~montesquieu mailto:montesquieu@penguinpowered.com ICQ 15933500 ---> http://www.ccfa.org <--- ---> http://www.ccfc.ca <--- _________________ Le Renard: "Voici mon secret. Thats what I am trying to avoid. There are a lot of updates (I mirrored the update section of teh ftp server), so there will be a lot of packages I don't have installed. On RedHat you can do "rpm --freshen" which only updates the packages that are alreaduy installed. This doesnt seem to be available with rpm on SuSE. Yes, unfortunately there is a file missing in the RPM package itself, which is needed for the "freshen" functionality. I will ask for an updated package on ftp.suse.com. Hope Lenz reading/posting on the list is not holding up the release of version 6.4 ;) Lenz Grimmer wrote:
