Dead? You've been misinformed. Here is their home page, and it was last modified less than a week ago.
From the those in the developer forum at QCad there hasn't been anything stirring in a while. So dead is a bad word it is more like slowing down. But things could change. If the ITC doesn't do a GPL many of us are thinking of going on without them and the QCad may be where we start.
QCad is up to 1.4.4, and only a year ago I downloaed 1.0. I used to use AutoCad for Windows and find that QCad is an equal
replacement
that is a lot easier to use. I put my house floor plan in it, and converted my old my old homicide investigation files to it.
I have been using AutoCAD for seven years now in a professional architectural environment. Believe me it isn't easy learning a new cad system and trying to be productive. Also AutoCAD has the ability to be customized with the use of AutoLisp. IntelliCAD takes very little in the way of retraining. The command line is the same as AutoCAD down to every dotted i and every crossed t. It also takes Lisp routines from autoCAD and even menu files with no problem. This is a great base to start with to move to Linux. QCad is not even close to this level of productivity.
As for being a 'dot' replacement for AutoCad I don't doubt you. And, at your level of professional use, QCad is not sufficient, if you want an AutoCad 'clone'. I was just remarking to your comment about QCad being dead. For most folks, who don't need a professional quality tool, QCad more than fills the bill and is VERY easy to learn and use. QCad is an exceptional Linux GPL project in that it hit the market as a very well done app. I have no doubt that Andrew may continue to add 'features' as the need and requests arise. Meanwhile, I hope you are successful in getting IntelliCad to port to Linux. I am wondering, however, as you describe IntelliCad's features, if they have been hit with a patent infringment lawsuit, since they seem to be extracting AutoCads LISP coding verbatim??
