[opensuse] zypper patch vs. list-updates
Hi, I basically know what the difference between the above is but what I'm wondering about is the following behaviour: opensuse11.1:~ # zypper patch Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... Nothing to do. opensuse11.1:~ # zypper lu Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... S | Repository | Name | Version | Arch --+----------------------+------------------------------+-----------------+------- v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | OpenOffice_org-libs-extern | 3.0.0.9-1.15.19 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | dbus-1-glib | 0.76-32.33.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | dbus-1-python | 0.83.0-22.22.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | dbus-1-qt3 | 0.62-221.222.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | dbus-1-x11 | 1.2.10-5.3.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | desktop-translations | 11.1-6.4.1 | noarch v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | evolution-data-server | 2.24.1.1-5.12.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | gtkhtml2 | 3.24.1.1-1.17.1 | i586 v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | openssl-certs | 0.9.8h-25.2.19 | noarch v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | yast2-online-update | 2.17.13-1.2.17 | noarch v | openSUSE-11.1-Update | yast2-online-update-frontend | 2.17.13-1.2.17 | noarch Why are there updated packages which are apparently not pulled in by any patch? opensuse11.1:~ # rpm -q libzypp zypper libzypp-5.30.24-0.1.1 zypper-1.0.14-0.1.2 Thanks, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Because zypper up and zypper patch are different? ;-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Oh, really? What a surprise! ;-) But my question and your answer doesn't fit together actually. We are talking about the official update channel only and therefore the question still stands. Why is there no patch requiring these updated packages? Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The issue is that zypper patch goes by patch names. e.g. openssl-certs is in: $ grep openssl-certs updateinfo-* -l updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-1554.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-2232.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-461.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-907.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-974.xml Where updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-2232.xml is the newest occurence, a patch with name "libopenssl-devel" and version 2232. However, there are more patches named libopenssl-devel: $ ls updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-* |cat updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-1554.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-2232.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-3206.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-3507.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-461.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-786.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-907.xml updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-974.xml In updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-3206.xml and updateinfo-libopenssl-devel-3507.xml the openssl-certs package is not listed. (openssl-certs is actually a standalone package, and should not be in the same patch as openssl, but it was a subpackage of openssl previously.) The others are also packages left out in patches with the same name, but newer versions.
