good day all ...
i'm making some progess getting my modem and ppp up and running. using, xisp, i can make the modem dial and negotiate with my isp server. however, when xisp brings up the terminal window, after a few seconds the i get a 'No Carrier' error. i'm sure i'm missing something simple. i did compile a new kernel with ppp support (dmesg reports PPP version 2.2.0 and PPP line discipline registered) so at least i've made some progress.
any help would be apprciated.

If your using ppp, perhaps chat would be a better script to work with your modem. Using chat I had no problem getting ppp up and running (once I got the other configurations correct). I did find that I had to up the TIMEOUT from 45 to 60. BTW, you can find some sample ppp scripts in the installation at "/usr/doc/inetcfg/ppp" and the easiest thing to do is to adapt them scripts to your system. If you are interested, I can send you the ppp-dial script that I have adapted to my system. It handles two providers and 5 users with no problem, but then it is not the dialer script that does that:-) cya l8r Leon McClatchey leonmcclatchey@homemail.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
