Hi Alfredo, Yes, I've checked the .xinitrc file and it contains no entry (blank)... so i search for .xinitrc.template and then i copy it to overwrite the blank .xinitrc and I restarted my system and and try to login again. And it succeed ! Thanks Alfredo... I still wonder what Linux desktop system works.... so I'll keep trying on other solutions from Gerhard, James, and Boricua. There should also be a file .xinitrc.template which you can copy to .xinitrc (notice the dot before xinitrc). It should be executable. Exit the text terminal, and try to login to KDE again. HTH. I'm glad it worked. I learned this when installing ymessenger and noticed that it tried to modify .xinitrc and failed. Regards. -- Alfredo J. Cole Grupo ACyC

I got that program for my wife's use. Do you know what it tries to change in the file? Mike
