samba server problem in SuSE 9.3
Dear SuSE users: The following information regards to SUSE 9.3 with KDE 3.4.0 and these samba packages: yast2-samba-client-2.11.5-3 yast2-samba-server-2.11.14-3 kdebase3-samba-3.4.0-28 samba-3.0.13-1.1 samba-client-3.0.13-1.1 I have configured samba server via YaST2 and set up shared folders. In the Samba configuration panel I checked the "open port in firewall" option. Still when I want to open my shared folders through the Network Brosing icon -> SMB Shares I get nothing, ie an empty window which says: no item - no files - no folders. If I turn off firewall in YaST2 Firewall Configuration panel I can browse my shared folders. So what should I do? I want firewall to be on but still need samba. What can be the proble with the samba setup? Thanks, IG ____________________________________________________________________________ Ingyenes hirdetés feladás az [origo] aprón! Samba comes with a tool called smbclient. It allows you to connect from the commandline to a samba server. I had several problems with the network browsing of the konquerer. Are you trying to connect to a samba server on your localhost? The samba server can be configured to serve to certain networks. Check how your server is configured (testparm). If you think that your firewall is causing the problem enable logging of all traffic (accepted and droped). That way you might see which other ports on the firewall you would have to enable.
Hi, Thanks for your answer. I don't think that this is a Konqueror issue. In the meantime I found that in the Firewall Configuration/ Interfaces panel I have two network interfaces configured: These are: Device Interface or String Configured in Realtek RT8139 eth-id-00.... External Zone Custom string eth-id-00.... External Zone However in the Network Card Configuration panel I have only the Realtek card configured. I don't know what is this 'Custom string' device in the firewall panel. I have removed it and after that I could browse my shares even with running firewall. But after rebooting the computer this 'custom string' device was recreated in the Firewall Configuration/Interfaces panel and I can not browse my shared folders anymore. What is this custom string device and why is it there? Thanks IG ____________________________________________________________________________ Ingyenes hirdetés feladás az [origo] aprón!
