[opensuse] 13.2 (LXDE) - cursor-select weirdness
Howdy... :~> uname -a Linux msbhpmain.site 3.16.6-2-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 20 13:47:22 UTC 2014 (feb42ea) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Desktop is LXDE (GTK version that ships in 13.2, not QT version). Using the mouse or keyboard to select an area of text does not "stick". A fraction of a second after selecting the area, the highlight disappears and the selected area is no longer marked. Example: after mouse-selecting an area of text to delete from a writable document, before I can press the 'delete' key the selection area is unmarked and if I press 'delete' key at this point the only thing deleted is the spot where the cursor is, at the end of the area I intended to delete. Apparently the selected area HAS been copied to the clipboard (it's visible in parcellite) and then deselected in the actual document. This is different from the expected action and different from previous versions. It's also extremely annoying. Question: Is this a bug, or an intended new 'feature', or simply a misconfiguration somewhere in my setup? Thanks in advance for any clues. I can confirm this issue. I installed openSUSE 13.2 with LXDE on a spare old machine which I've now found myself having to use temporarily as my main machine due to a hardware fault. I'm currently needing to do regular edits to a few basic text documents so it's bloody annoying. I assume you're talking about Leafpad? I guess I should download an alternative text editor and see if the issue persists. Here in Thunderbird as I type this it seems there's no problem. I use keyboard text selection shortcuts regularly, but just to check I tried using the touchpad on this laptop and there it seems the highlighted text NEVER sticks, not even for the fraction of a second like it does when selecting with keys. Having Leafpad installed for a long time on another openSUSE (12.3) desktop with XFCE, I can confirm the issue does not appear there. But I won't be able to verify it with the same version of openSUSE. Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I can confirm this issue. I installed openSUSE 13.2 with LXDE
Not sure if this is what you are describing, but if say you select text in Leafpad it can then be copied to e.g. lo. Screenshot: https://db.tt/Xh4uymUT In 13.2, add the lxde repo and zypper dup. Hi. I'm not sure what I'm looking at in your link...? The original problem was the inability to select anything, as after I marked/highlighted a string of text the selection would be immediately unselected in the original document. Made it impossible to cut and/or delete the selection. But, at the same time, the briefly marked area WAS being automatically copied to the clipboard. Hi.

I could not reproduce the problem. I selected some text in Leafpad and pasted it into an empty lo document. I then highlighted some text in lo that I'd just pasted. Then I did a screenshot.
The original problem was the inability to select anything,

Hello Peter. I seem to have solved my problem but after about a hundred or so rapid/consecutive try-this-no-now-try-that it all became a blur and now I don't remember exactly what exactly I did that fixed it. ;-) If you're running parcellite as your clipboard manager, try going into "Preferences" (right click the parcellite tray icon) and on the "Behavior" tab select the first 2 options under "Clipboards", then unselect "Synchronize..", then make sure everything on the "Auto Paste" line under "History" is unselected, then unselect the "Trim Whitespace" and "Trim Newlines" boxes under "Miscellaneous". See if that does it. Note that very early on in the fix-it attempt I also installed a newer parcellite version (1.1.9) which didn't seem to help anything but that's what I have installed here at the moment FWIW.
