Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Kernel-Patches
Hi all,
Would someone translate please? when I hear "Kernel Patches", i'd like to know what the person is saying....
No problem. First he tells that the newest kernel patches are available from www.linuxhw.com and asks how to install them and if he needs the patch for 2.0.31 too, if he wants to upgrade his 2.0.30 kernel to 2.0.32 or only the 2.0.32 patch. The answer to the latter question is 'yes.' A patch for the linux kernel does _not_, unlike OS/2 fixpacks, include all former fixes. The patch is just a file that contains the difference between kernel version x.y.z and kernel version x.y.(z+1). To install the patch you unpack the linux kernel (usually into /usr/src/linux). Copy the patch to /usr/src and patch -p < patchfilename cd linux make config (or whatever you prefer to make) and make the kernel & install it. kind regards, Robert -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
