I am looking into getting a SCSI tape backup drive. Checking the SuSE hardware data base, it lists only the HP Colorado Tape Drive as being fully supported. Is any one using another brand of tape drive that works? I am looking for one that can be installed and not have to do any hacking to get it working. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. The BRU web site (http://www.bru.com) has a pretty good library of devices that their product works with on Linux; which means that most of them are supported by Linux/GNU tools. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

-- I am using a Exabyte 8505 I think. Its a 8mm tape drive. I get pretty good backup speeds with BRU on it. I think that this particular model has been obsoleted by Exabyte; but when I want to find things like this I can usually do it at Ebay. I use the exabyte with several backup software solutions and my SuSE 6.3 box. Works quite well on an adaptec 2930 u2w controller.
Take care. -- Michael Perry mperry@tsoft.com ------------------ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

IMHO SCSI is the way to go with Linux. If Linux can see your SCSI controller, you're home free (pretty much :-) I have a 4/8 Gb DDS-2 drive from Aiwa that works fine off of an el-cheapo Adaptec AHA 1520B ISA card. (Yeah, it's ISA SCSI-2, but we're talking a 486DX2 here, folks). I use a Segate TR4 scsi external tape drive. Works great. Almot all scsi tape drives should work. Terry Nevada wrote:
