Hey all, I've Just installed Opensuse 11.0 on a VM machine here at work. I have no experience with Linux and trying to learn. Can anyone point me to a guide or documentation that would give me the basic understanding on how to do certain things as I have come from a windows background. For example. 1. Installing software - I am trying to install some AV software but keep getting a dependency failure. I am updating Yast now which I think I must do. 2. Basically any windows commands. Thanks Tyron -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

AV software? For what? Unless you are feeding email to windows users, it really isn't needed. ClamAV comes to mind, and it's included on the disk I think.
2. Basically any windows commands.
Such as? *nix commands are a bit different from Windows commands. What are you trying to do?
Thanks
Tyron

You're right.. Didn't even cross my mind.. ;-) Hopefully the OP will come back and let us know what he needs. Many kudos for taking the leap. You will find that you'll get a better response by giving more specifics when asking a question. Keep in mind only a very few of us have a crystal ball and most of the time they don't work. As to question #1 more info is needed, such as what software are you trying to install and how are trying to install it. For #2 you need to explain what you mean by "windows commands". Are you looking for help using the command line? -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hey, Tyron - good for you for taking the leap. Let us know a few things - 1. In Linux distributions you can run one of several "Window Managers." Which are you running and which version? Are you on KDE, Enlightenment, ICEWM? Something else? 2. What do you wish to accomplish by "windows commands"? Are you in the shell - like DOS? Or do you mean what are the equivelants? For example, if you're on XP/Vista, you use Explorer. KDE has Konqueror for this purpose. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.perfectreign.com Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it. - Dee Hock -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
