Comcast has been taken over by TimeWarner. I've been told to update my email to roadrunner via IE with ActiveX. I cannot do that since I'm running Linux. Anyone face this problem who can give me the instruction for a Linux User? Hope I'm not the only one facing this problem. Regards, Terry Eck
Hi, I believe all you need to do is get their incoming and outgoing mail server addresses for time warner. I recently had the same thing happen to me. switched from adelphia to time warner. They dont have my new account setup yet though. I would call TW tech support, they should be able to help you out. --- terry_eck@comcast.net wrote:

I tried help.rr.com in firefox. There is a link for Minn. comcast customers being transferred. There is a FAQ and other information that all seems accessable via firefox. RoadRunner does have a linux faq and help listing. And I have talked to tech reps (not script readers) who are knowledgeable of linux. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

Several years ago here Time Warner was replaced by Bright House Networks. When I signed on to cable, the switch had already been made. There were 4 ISP choices then, Road Runner (tampabay.rr.com), AOL (aol.com), Earthlink (earthlink.net), and Internet Junction (ij.net). I chose IJ because they were the smallest, with the best email name. Last month, BHN terminated IJ's contract, forcing everyone who wants to keep cable to choose one of the remaining 3. Those who do nothing in response automatically get switched to RR. I chose EL, but paid IJ to keep my email addresses. As a result, I didn't have to change anything, only just make one phone call to EL, and get 6 months of about $12/mo discount. If you use an internet router, the only thing you may need to do is reset the modem when they actually turn on the switchoever. Check and make sure that Road Runner is your only option before it's too late. Odds are it's the most expensive if you do in fact have other options. -- "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped." Psalm 28:7 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. First, I would let them know that you don't run Windows and ask for an alternative solution. If this doesn't work, which it likely will not, you might try installing IE on Linux via wine or crossover office. -- Until later, Geoffrey Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Well, I finally got switched over to roadrunner from comcast. The key was information from Patrick Shanahan and Alexa Pongracz suggesting going to "help.rr.com". They had all the information needed. Subject was something like "... for those who cannot use EI". Never mentioned Linux. Anyway, thanks for all your help. My wife has another problem that just popped up since the switch which I will post under a different heading.
