SuSE Linux Enterprise Server and Java
We have SLES 7 installed and plan to install the SAP Business Connector. With SLES came Sun JAVA JDK 1.1.8v3-4. For the BC we need 1.2. Are there special builds of the java RPM for SLES or can we use one from one of the other versions of SuSE? Thanks for any advice. The best JDK for Linux is Sun jdk, imho. May be it is slower than IBM jdk, but it is more stable :-) Get it from sun.com

I've been running different Sun JDK's on SLES 7 for several months now, both 1.3 and 1.4. I've been using the "RedHat" RPMS from java.sun.com and they work fine. As a side note, the Sun JDK's install in /usr/java, while SuSE itself references /usr/lib/java for all their programs, so if you want the new JDK to be the default for everything, symlink /usr/lib/java to the new JDK location.
