How do you add items to the xfce menu or panel which run as root? It is easy in KDE, but I can't find an answer through Google (must have the wrong search criteria). Thanks. Sargon.

I happened to write about that in a.o.l.s. today. Here it is. You'll notice that SuSE doesn't make a nice application menu in Xfce4, like it does in e.g. KDE. If you install and run xfce-menu, and make links in /usr/share/applications/ from directories where other window-managers keep their *.desktop files, Xfce4 automagically makes a menu structure with all the applications on your system. cd /usr/share/applications ln -s /opt/kde3/share/apps kde2 ln -s /opt/kde3/share/application kde ln -s /opt/gnome/share/applications gnome There's one snag: Xfce seems to rebuild that menu each first time you use it after leaving the wm, so it's a bit slow that first time. Adding items to the panel is a matter of right-clicking on the achors at the ends, and choosing "Add new Item". Theo -- Theo v. I can think of a few different ways: sux - -c command (Make sure "Run in terminal" is checked) kdesu command susewmif ROOT_X11 command -- Homepage http://scottj.org XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB

Duh. Forgot about kdesu.
That was the easiest to use.
Thanks.
You're welcome, glad it worked. BTW, don't forget the Xfce mailing lists (http://foo-projects.org/mailman/listinfo/xfce). -- Homepage http://scottj.org XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB
