I have setup my server to masquerade, using the instructions given in the latest HOWTO. The problem is on the internal network, I can ping the outside world, telnet from the Linux server. Also ping works ok from the server to the PC. I have set the PC's gateway to the address of the linux box, TCP protocol is installed. It seems that the pc cannot ping the Linux server. Does anyone have any hints? - finstan -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Just a thought: when you enable IP masquerading in the kernel, I dimly remember that you have the option to enable ICMP masquerading also - and of course PINGing is ICMP. May not be your problem, but worth checking!! (And it certainly caught me out some time back!) Cheers, Sean Keymer Stanley wrote:

This sounds sort of similar to a problem I had earlier setting up masquerading and I think I fixed it by adding the line: /sbin/ipfwadm -F -p masquerade ..to my /etc/rc.d/boot.local file Just a thought lj On Fri, 5 Nov 1999, Keymer Stanley wrote:

The problem I have is that I would like to set some rules so that PC's on my network can only surf the Internet at certain times of the day. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? Haven't had this problem by myself, but this should be pretty easy to do with creating two shell scripts (e.g. surf_up/surf_down) which contain the correspondent ipchains rules. Now add cron entries to execute them at the desired time. Good luck! LenZ, George, JP , et all Re ip masq , I understand that this is ALL READY built into the stock 6.2 kernal Right ?? Wrong ?? Are they built in monolithic , or as modules that need to be loaded ? If loaded , which ones ? Next , Would any of you know if there is a good simplistic web page or docs on how to set this all up ?? what I found in the ip masq dir confused me. ie what files need to be created , and how is it started. They are build as modules and belong to the stock 6.2 kernel. Masquerading should work out of the box.
